Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have other classes in Tokyo?
We have classes in Akihabara & Akasaka Roppongi. For detailed schedule and locations please click here。
What do I need to bring to a capoeira lesson?
You don’t need to bring much to start. Comfortable sportswear like a T-shirt and jogging pants is sufficient, and classes are typically done barefoot or wearing indoor shoes. In the case of indoor shoes, we recommend shoes with flat sole. It’s also recommended to bring a towel and a drink for hydration.
Do I need prior experience in dance or martial arts to join?
No, capoeira is beginner-friendly and inclusive. Classes start with basics like stretching, basic kicks, defensive movements, and cartwheels. Instructors adjust the class level to suit participants, so even those with no dance or fitness background can join and improve their rhythm and fitness over time.
What is Batizado?
Batizado is a traditional ceremony that is respected and performed by Capoeira groups all around the world even today. It has now become one of the most important events and includes the promotion ceremony, Troca de Cordas (Troca de Cordas). Capoeira Gerais also invites Mestres from overseas once a year to hold Batizado in Japan!
