Warm up & Stretching
First we will do some stretching and warm up exercises. It is very important to be flexible in capoeira in order to prevent injuries (also to look cool!).
Capoeira Basics
As with any sports, practice makes perfect! It is also important to build good foundation in capoeira. We will repeat basic kicks, dodges, and movements to build good form and get used to the movement of capoeira.
Sparring
Capoeira cannot be done by oneself. It will always involve a partner. We will practice the capoeira basics in pairs and learn to communicate with each other through kicking and evading. This will help understand the flow of capoeira.
Depending on the day....
Music
Music is an essential part of capoeira. We will learn to sing and move with the rhythm of the music of capoeira. By moving with the tempo, you can further improve your rhythm and game.
Acrobatics
Although most acrobatic moves are for show and preferential, there are few basic acrobatic movements used in capoeira. Practicing handstand and variations of cartwheels will help widen the options of movement in capoeira. Developing these skills can lead to more advance acrobatics and used in game to personalize your style!
Capoeira Roda
Capoeira is played while singing to music in a circle made by capoeristas (Capoeira Practitioners) called a roda, which means "wheel" in Portugese. We will learn the etiquette of the roda and play capoeira in the same way. Once you are able to play in the roda with a partner, you are can now truly say you are playing Capoeira!
