Mestre Maó Branca
William Douglas Guimarães was born in Belo Horizonte in April 1960. In the mid-70s, he was introduced to capoeira by Mestre Jacaré and trained under him for one year. He then moved to Rio de Janeiro, where he trained for many years under Mestre Gigante. Around this time, he received the nickname Maó Branca (White Hand) from his mestre, and became a mestre himself in 1985. When he returned to Belo Horizonte, he founded Capoeira Gerais and devoted himself to helping children from disadvantaged areas through capoeira and the development and popularization of capoeira all around the world. He is now one of the most well known and well respected mestre by Capoeistas all over the world.
